My name is Henrik Biering. I am 61 years old with a lifetime of experience in therapy and self-development. I offer individual psychotherapy in Copenhagen. I graduated as a Gestalt Psychotherapist MPF in 2010 and as a Couples Therapist in 2011, with extensive experience in therapy and self-development.
Goal of Therapy
The aim of therapy is to create clarity around the problem you seek to solve. It is an exploration of your reality as it is right now.
Values and Methods
Being a therapist is like having a craft. I take great professional pride in my work. My tools are effective, and I use them in a gentle and respectful manner. Therapy is flexibly adapted to your needs. Alongside my craft, I have a broad range of knowledge and experience in mindfulness, body awareness, and more, which are incorporated as needed.
An Experienced Therapist Ensures That You…
– Receive qualified support and guidance
– Navigate difficult times more effectively
– Avoid straining your close relationships too much
When to Choose Individual Therapy
If you find it difficult to change your situation on your own, therapy can help. Psychotherapy involves conversations about what you find problematic. It supports you in achieving the clarity and change you seek, all in a safe space where you can work on what matters most to you. Therapy helps you discover what you may not notice on your own. As a therapist, I support you in experiencing, feeling, and exploring aspects of yourself that you have neglected or forgotten. Professional conversation and psychotherapy pave the way to moving forward when life feels painful and meaningless. Therapy will make a difference, especially when you begin to notice yourself and the behavior patterns that cause problems or hold you back in life and relationships.
How Individual Therapy Works
Depending on your needs, I will support or challenge you to better connect with your feelings. This can sometimes involve small experiments, such as Gestalt therapy’s “chair work,” where you can work with opposing sides of yourself or conflicts in your relationships.
People I Have Worked With…
In my professional role, I have been fortunate to support many people. They have reported significant help through therapy, such as:
- Finding new peace in life by taking responsibility and freeing themselves from the victim role
- Improving by recognizing and addressing lifelong anger
- Regaining good sleep by finding new meaning in life
- Standing in their own power, getting divorced, and finding the right partner
Gestalt Therapy as a Method
Gestalt therapy posits that despite our genetics and environment, we have the extensive ability and responsibility to choose what we want to do with our lives. Philosophically, all humans share the fundamental condition of seeking the meaning of life, from loneliness to freedom to death.
Crises and Psychological Problems
Psychological problems trigger crises in life, sometimes multiple times during adulthood. Divorce, heartbreak, job loss, or other losses can be the cause. I also see clients overwhelmed by long-standing issues like low self-esteem or loneliness. Crises naturally create a need to reach out and seek help from a therapist, whether short-term or until one is back on their feet.
Difficulty with Social or Close Relationships?
In individual therapy, you can also work on your social or close relationships, whether with friends, partners, adult children, parents, or colleagues. As a psychotherapist, I focus on what our relationships mean for our well-being. In talk therapy, you can explore what creates problems in your relationships, such as boundary-setting and saying no and yes.
Difficult Emotions Call for Change
Difficult times with difficult emotions call for change. No one goes through life without adversity, but it is crucial not to feel overwhelmed by your emotions. Feelings of shame, guilt, or overwhelming anxiety about the future may indicate the need to seek the support you deserve.
You can book psychotherapy sessions in Østerbro, Copenhagen K, and Valby. Unsure if individual therapy is right for you? I offer a free initial consultation. Call today to find out if psychotherapy can help you and if I am the right therapist for you.
